Good Carb Diets

As carbohydrates have received a bit of a battering in recent years, they are making somewhat of a comeback in some circles with the arrival of good carb diets . As many low carb diet plans have been receiving bad press and criticism from the medical world, people are increasingly introducing good carbs back into into their diets. A good carb diet is now seen as a viable weight loss plan that is less extreme than some low carb diets and easier to stick to.

Why have low crab diets been receiving bad press?
There is no doubt that low carb diets can be highly successful and a great way to lose weight for many people battling the bulge. However some strict low carb diets have received criticism for being unhealthy if followed over a long period of time. The short term results of strict low carb diets are great but people have claimed that once they come off their low carb diet they gain more weight back on than they had lost.
There are many new good carb diets now surfacing that are enjoying great success as carbohydrate lovers look for alternatives to low carbohydrate diets. Books explaining the benefits of eating good carb foods and following good carb diets are flying off the shelves.

What are good carbs?
There has been a distinction made between good and bad carbs. Good carbohydrates are pure foods that have not been refined or processed. Bad carbohydrates are refined foods that are often high in sugar content and low in nutritional value. Bad carbohydrate foods are broken down quickly in the body and give us an instant surge of energy due to the sugar content. However this surge of energy is not sustained and is followed by hunger as we our body requires more food to convert into energy. Good carbs on the other hand, contain natural sugars which the body takes longer to break down and use up, therefore our energy levels are more even and we don't experience such frequent pangs of hunger.

What are the benefits of good carbs diets?
As people are looking for less extreme and strict weight loss plans, good carb diets are becoming extremely popular. Extreme and strict diets are hard to stick to and the rapid weight loss can be hard to sustain. Thus, dieters are looking to make more healthy, long-term changes to their diets. People are learning that carbohydrates do not need to banished from one's diet in order to lose weight. Many good carb diets out there, tout the benefits of following a healthy and balanced diet.
