Good Carb

The whole good carb, bad carb thing is a misnomer if you look at it from a nutritional standpoint. The carb dieting craze has created a distinction between what a good carb is supposed to be; but, we think it all lies in an educated perception.

Good Carb

The Showdown

Unless you have had your head under a rock for the last few years, you know that there is a debate raging on the good carb vs. bad carb craze. There are a number of good carb diets that ascribe to a belief that every carb is evil. We don't believe that. If you look back in history, early man existed on a diet that mainly incorporated carbohydrates into his diet. Of course there were no fast food restaurants or super sized meals to be had, and, he had to hustle to get his minimum daily good carb requirement of energy, but, that being said, he was still living off the land.

Things have changed a little since early man and now there is no longer the daily rush to make sure we get our good carb energy requirements met. In fact, we have adopted just the opposite approach in our search for a good carb diet . Now, we watch every morsel that we put into our mouths. It is a war of good carbs vs. bad carbs. This is unfortunate as there are "good and bad" choices to be made in all food groups.

The bad carbs refer to those that raise our blood glucose levels to a high, unhealthy level. You can look to the usual suspects for examples that range from sugars to candies and processed sweets. This doesn't mean that you have to completely eliminate them from your diet; it means that you should be sensible in your choices and your intake of these types of carbs.

The good carb choices are considered to be green leafy vegetables and most of the products you will find in your grocer's fresh produce section. Many low carb dieters make the mistake of overindulging on fatty meats and cheeses as a way to avoid the good carb choices that can be found. Don't make this mistake. Remember, good and bad carbs can be found in all of the foods we eat.
