Low Carbohydrates Dieting
Remember when low carbohydrates dieting was all the rage? Okay, it still is in some instances. But the popularity of the low carbohydrates diet is waning. Why? Lots of reasons, not the least of which is boredom.
"I'm So Tired of Low Carb Dieting!"
Has this become your mantra? You're probably grumpy from being on a low carbohydrates diet. Maybe you've been low carbohydrates dieting for awhile, you've lost weight and look great. Chances are you don't feel great. Aren't you tired of taking all those supplements? And don't you miss bread? True, there are new breads on the market made specifically for those who are counting their carbohydrates, but the fact is your body needs a certain amount of carbs to function (130 grams to be exact). So why not try a different kind of low carbohydrates dieting?
If you're in the maintenance phase of your low carb diet, you're probably allowed to have that 130 grams of carbs a day as it is. This doesn't mean you can have "regular" carbs again on a regular basis. Sure, a piece of birthday cake on occasion is acceptable, but by and large, you need to stick with complex carbs. (This isn't advice you'll get anywhere else about low carbohydrates dieting.) Not sure what complex carbohydrates are? They're the ones that take your body longer to digest. In simple terms, avoid anything made with white flour and/or refined sugar and you'll be fine. This doesn't mean you can't have bread and pasta and rice. It just means that instead of white bread, you eat whole grain or whole wheat bread. Instead of regular pasta, try whole wheat. Instead of white rice, try brown rice. You won't even notice a difference. If you do, it will be minimal. Unlike simple carbs, complex carbs like these won't cause your blood sugar to spike and it won't cause your body to produce excess amounts of insulin (which leads to weight gain). Plus, they make you feel full longer, so you're not in this constant cycle of eating simple carbs (foods like desserts and sugary treats, white bread, regular pasta, etc.) then getting hungry again soon after, then eating more simple carbs.
If you feel that low carbohydrates dieting is simply the only way to lose weight, go ahead. Just make sure you follow your particular diet's book to the letter so you can stay as healthy as possible while doing it.
