Good Carbs vs. Bad Carbs

When it comes to understanding carbs, it can be a bit tricky at first. Not everything is cut and dry or in black and white. There's a little bit of a gray area. But once you understand that gray area, your diet and way of eating will be so much easier. For example, even though there are good carbohydrates, there really aren't anything such as bad carbs, at least not technically. There are carbs you may want to stay away from, but even they have their place in a diet. Then you have the 'good carbs,' carbs you want to get as much of as possible. But even these good carbs you don't want to consume too much of. In fact, these are the carbs you have to watch. Yes, they are good for you, but too much of anything isn't good for anyone.

When talking about good carbs, we're talking about foods such as oatmeal, pasta, grains, etc. The foods that naturally have their own sugar and glucose and that take a while to break down. These foods make you feel fuller longer, taking away the urge for you to constantly consume food. All of the Foods like these should be eaten at breakfast in particular. That way you have something in your stomach to hold you over until it's time to eat.

The ideal scenario with good carbs

Conversely, "bad carbs" are carbs that burn quickly. You wouldn't eat bad carbs to start off your day because they burn too quickly, and within the hour you'll be hungry again. These carbs are consumed after a workout to help with the muscle mending process. They are there for quick energy, for when you need a boost. When it comes to good carbohydrates and bad carbohydrates, just know when to eat what. Both carbs can be considered good to some extent. Once you start your low carbs diet, these concepts will be a lot clearer.

Understanding the good carb vs. bad carb debate can be exhausting.
But, as with anything, a balance is the key to dieting success.
There's your rundown on good carbs. Go put it to good use.
